It sounds mythical doesn’t it. Does it actually exist? The people that say they have their dream job can’t be serious, right? Regardless of how skeptical you are about the elusive dream job, the closest version of it possible has to be out there. And it’s waiting for us. If the perfect job for each of us is an impossible 1,000,000 piece puzzle, how do put as many pieces of that damn puzzle together as possible? There isn’t anything most of us spend more time doing than working, so finding the best job should be a top priority.
Now is the time for everyone to think about what their dream career is. We are in an insanely hot job market and we have all just survived an incredibly stressful, overwhelming and awakening two years. You only have so much time living this thing called life for and our biggest priority should be using our time and talents to do what most fulfills us. Your ideal situation is out there, it is up to you to chase it down (or at least get as close as possible – I get that luck plays a role to a certain extent), but given your talents, ability, passions and level of luck that you hit – what is your dream job and using both general and specific statements to the below questions, what does it look like?
1. What does your dream career look like?
2. What are your big picture accomplishments?
3. How will you help people and provide value?
4. What types of things will you enjoy doing?
5. What does a day in a week in the life of this career look like?
6. What are your concerns with the tasks that would be required by this career and how would you overcome these concerns or outsource the tasks?
7. How much money will you earn (also figure out how much you realistically need to earn to live your ideal lifestyle)?
8. What would your working schedule look like?
9. What skills/training/licensing will you need?
10. How will your career branch into other opportunities?
11. What does this career look like in the future (i.e. advancements in technology)?
12. How will your personal life be impacted by this career (think flexibility, travel requirements, schedule, mental capacity)?
I’ll be working on answering these questions myself and will share my responses with you after some reflection. I would love to hear any discoveries you had after this exercise!
